Calibrating the ESC to your radio is a 100% necessary procedure! This ensures that you are getting full throttle and full brake/reverse when using your ESC. Improper calibration can lead to some odd behavior and can prevent settings like Drag Brake and Turbo from working properly. You should radio calibrate anytime you:
First install a new Tekin ESC.
Flash the firmware in the ESC.
Replace a receiver.
Change a radio or set to a different model on the radio.
On 27th of April I participated in the first round of the 2019 Lithuanian off-road championship. The event took place in Kaunas. Dominykas recaps:
“Q1: During practice I thought I had a good setup, just needed to get the car to be smoother through the rough sections. Pace was good, but a couple of mistakes gave me 4th place. Almost all the guys were really quick (or maybe I wasn’t fully out of the winter break 🙂 ). Q2: Change of tires and lower ride height gave me the stability I needed. 1st place, but only 0,85 from 2nd place. Top 4 were 4 seconds apart. Q3: Steady pace with no mistakes gave me 1st place and a 10 second gap to 2nd place.
R1: Took TQ in qualifying. In 2nd place was TLR’s driver Domantas Cesiulis who was really quick but had a tendency to make mistakes. Had a great start, tried not to make mistakes. Domantas saw a gap and overtook me. But after a while he had a contact with a backmarker. After that 3 drivers battled for 2nd place which allowed me to pull away. But once a said to myself ,,just don’t make mistakes’ my pace dropped a bit. Took 1st place with 4 seconds to 2nd place.
R2: On the practice lap before the race my car switched off unexpectedly. Somehow my dad and my friend got the car going again. This final was a bit easier, but in the beginning I needed to defend from Domantas a lot. But in happened again that he pushed his car too much and made mistakes which allowed me to take 1st place!!!
After the A2 final I had secured a 1st place finish, which allowed me to skip the A3 final, as it wasn’t necessary. Overall, I’m really happy with a great start to my 2019 season. AÂ TQ and Win is a great result!”
Badlands Spring Sting race. There were 140+ entries for this event. In Pro E-Buggy JM3 was able to TQ and take home the win in the main. Tekin factory driver John Michael McGinty III was in attendance.
In Pro Nitro Buggy JM3 qualified 4th. He took the lead after a couple minutes and led the rest of the 30 minute main to take the win.
Running the full line of Tekin servos, Rx8 Gen3, and T8 motor in his E-Buggy along with Tekin Servos in his nitro buggy where “they are working great!”
With the VS4-10 build mostly finished, I’ve started in on a new E-Buggy build; the new TLR 8IGHT-X E! Join in as I assemble the buggy kit to [almost] roller state covering differentials, shocks, the front clip, the rear clip and the main chassis.
Putting some miles and beauty marks on the VS4-10! It was sunny and cold over the weekend (40F cold) and windy, but that didn’t stop me from taking the VS4-10 out on my home trail and running some semi-comp lines. I made some small changes since the maiden voyage, which were going up 10wt in rear shock oil and gearing down from a 13T to a 10T pinion. The change in shock oil was just to slow down the rear shock compression/rebound a bit which made the truck even more stable in the real tricky terrain. Gearing down 3T on the pinion gave me even more smooth low-end control, which is always welcome. I try to drive as smooth as possible and keep the movement scale. I did lose a little wheel speed, but 4S and a 2300kV provides plenty of snap when I need it!
Our first ever Fan Photo Friday competition went down over the past couple of weeks and after narrowing the field down to 4 weekly finalists, a winner was decided by their peers in a public vote! Kyle Joseph submitted this fantastic custom 6×6 LC70 Adventure build in week one and I knew it would be a contender.
The weather finally decided it was going to cooperate, so we loaded up the Jeep and took the Origin out for a 4 hour long maiden voyage! After just a 45 minute drive, we found some really fun spots along the Salmon River to get a feel for the Origin and put some scratches on it. The truck did amazing and the 4S RX4 ROC412 2300kV system was perfect!
Tekin Ceramic Motor Bearings are a great way to get even better performance from your GEN3 / SPEC-R brushless motor! Extremely low friction and precision manufacturing provides a noticeable increase in motor RPM output while lowering the drag and increasing efficiency! Grab a set for yourself and feel the difference!
The VS4-10 is a driver! Ty finishes up the paint work, body and interior assembly, puts the wheels and tires together and installs the simple LED kit. Now that the truck is ready to hit the trails, it’s time to take it out and put some miles on it!
Having solid qualifying sitting qualified 2nd in 17.5 Expert Stock Buggy 8th in 2wd Modified Buggy Joe would have stellar race results in hos own words:
“Race results. A1 and A2 win to secure 17.5 overall win (none too soon Ezra TQ was insane fast in A3) A1 8th A2 6th A3 2nd to secure 4th overall in 2wd Mod and I think I squeaked out hot lap of the weekend for 2wd mod in A3 finally felt like my car was good in the last main, but 8th is a long way back to have done any better from there I don’t think.
Thanks to my fantastic sponsors: Focus RC, Xray, RC America, Tekin, and Focus Lidz.”
