Under the Hood with Tekin powered Ronda Drake!

If you don’t know who Ronda Drake is you’ve been living under a rock somewhere. All kidding aside Ronda is one of if not the fastest female talent RC Racing has in the world. Ronda has been racing and competing at the top level for awhile now(it’s not polite to ask guys 😉 ) . “I personally met Ronda back at an old Hot Rod Shootout circa late 90’s. She was in my heat and I learned then as did many others did that this “chick” was going to put an ass whoop’n on us. She proceeded to out qualify me by two heats!  So when I ran into her later down the road I knew she’d be a perfect fit for Team Tekin.” Randy Pike

Let’s check out what’s “Under the Hood” in Ronda’s favorite Tekin powered ride!

Ronda Drake

Ronda is smashing down the competition with her TLR Scte 2.0 powered by the latest Tekin Pro4HD 4300kv and Rx8 Esc. This combination has taken over the 4wd SC division and with it Ronda is tough to beat.

As you can see from the pictures the wiring install is clean and well routed. This not only looks pretty it assures that her equipment is always going to work.
Ronda has fashioned a lexan guard around her receiver to protect if from roost thrown by her front tires. These are the little details that separate the girls from the men….pretty smart.
Ronda’s 4wd SC body is nicely wrapped up by Upgrade RC. Next time you’re at the “big race” of the year and you get motored by this pink and black land rocket just know you’re getting beaten by the fastest gal in R/C!

Tekin wins E Truggy and E Buggy at RD 2 of the ROAR Region 2 Mid-Atlantic Series.

On May 4th, 2013 LCRC Raceway in Oakland Mills, PA hosted the Mid-Atlantic Roar Region 2 – Race 2.

Tekin powered Joe Bornhorst would take the win in the 1/8 E Buggy Class. The field was deep with  5 heats of 1/8 E-Buggy, 51 total drivers in the class. When the tone sounded for the start of A1, Gunnar Rieck and Joe Bornhorst started to check out from the pack. They were nose to tail for the first couple of minutes, having an amazing race, and neither of them were making any mistakes. At about the 2:30 mark, Bornhorst’s  car started to act a little weird as the right rear wheel was bouncing in the air. Later found out to be a broken shock shaft so Bornhorst was running on only a spring. Bornhorst kept pushing forward to try and finish as strong as he could. A slight mistake Bornhorst would up the inside line, and Gunnar got around.  After a few more laps, Gunnar got caught up with a wrecked lapped car, and Bornhorst got back around! At this point, they were right back where they started, nose to tail and having a very close battle. Bornhorst took advantage of a couple of mistakes by Rieck, and started to slightly pull away. With about a 2.5 sec lead, the announcer called one minute to go, and he knew that he just had to bring it home for the win. Bornhorst did just that, and came around for the A1 win!

Going into A2, Bornhorst knew that he just needed a solid race to get the overall win. When the tone sounded, it didn’t exactly go to plan.. Bornhorst caught a tube in the second turn, going straight to the back of the pack. On the first lap Bornhorst took advantage of everyone being bottled up together, and made a handful of passes within the matter of a couple of sections. Bornhorst came around on the first lap in the 6th position. Pushing as hard as he could, Bornhorst made it all of the way up to the 3rd spot with two minutes to go. On the last lap of the race, Bornhorst made a last minute pass for 2nd, and finished there. I then knew it would come down to a tie breaker of overall time for the win between Anthony Mazzara and Joe. The race sheets to be posted, and to Bornhorst relief, he won the tie breaker along with winning the overall!

Serpents own Paul Cicarello would take the E Truggy win with his Tekin Rx8 T8 2000kv powered Serpent electric truggy.

Both Joe and Paul chose the folllowing Tekin products:

Tekin wins the 2013 Roar Nats warm up!

The 2013 ROAR nationals warm up was held at Gulf Coast RC Raceway in Porter, Texas.  The weekend event included the electric buggy class which provided some extra run time on the track and another opportunity for some close racing on the very high bite track .  This allowed the Tekin Team drivers to put the power of their Tekin systems to the ground and run some really fast laps.

On Saturday there were three 7 minute qualifiers using rocket round to determine the starting order for the main event.  We were able to qualify first by a small margin over Jake Dillinger and Tekin powered David Joor.  The main started with a very close group battling for the top spot.  After all of the top three swapping positions numerous times Tekin powered Barry Pettit was able to pull a small lead and finish the race in the first position. Barry was joined by Tekin teammate Brian “Smiley” Henn in 3rd.

“We ran the Tekin RX-8 with the T8 2050 motor powered by the Protek batteries.  This combination helped our Mugen MBX-6 ECO put all the power to the ground and hook up our JConcepts rubber!”  Barry Pettit

Brian Henn continued the Tekin dominance taking the overall Tq and win in the 4wd SC class with his Tekin Rx8 Pro 4 HD powered TLR Scte 2.0.

Jason "Mo" Moberly wins the Rose Classis Offroad Championships with a Tekin Pro 2 and Rx8 Gen2!

This weekend we had the first Rose Classis Offroad Championships at Speedworld Raceway in Roseville, CA.  Speedworld is known around the globe for world class on-road racing.  Owner Billy Bowerman and his crew built many wooden jumps, including a couple of 10 foot long table tops.  The weather was hot and there was some great racing action.

In 2wd  SC open, Jason “Mo” Moberly’s Tekin Pro2 5100kv/RX8 Gen 2 powered Durango DESC210, wired with new Tekin Flex Jacket wire was on fire.  Moberly TQ’d every round except one when the darn mechanic (himself) didn’t properly tighten down the pinion after a gear ratio change.  In the main Mo lead from tone to tone, taking the win by over a lap with a fast lap over a second ahead of anyone else.  Temperatures were close to 90 degrees and the Tekin RX8 Gen 2 and Tekin Pro 2 never broke a sweat, even without a fan.

Tekin wins the 2013 Southeastern Indoor Classic!

The Warehouse Raceway located in Helena Alabama hosted the Southeastern Indoor Classic. With well over 120+ entries the racing was tight and fun. Drivers from Tennessee, GA, Alabama, and other near by states all in attendance.

Tekin powered Mark Moon put both his Tekin RS Gen 2 esc Redline Gen2 motor powered Open 2wd SCT and Open 2wd buggy into the A mains in both classes. Moon finished 2nd in Open SCT and would take the big win in Open 2wd buggy!

“The new esc are so smooth, and consistent. The new Gen 2 RS is so much smoother than the old RS!” Mark Moon

Tekin teammate Blane Allen Tq’d Open Stadium truck using a Tekin RS Gen 2 esc and Gen 2 8.5 motor. Allen would go on to take 2nd behind teammate Moon in 2wd Open Buggy and take the win in Open ST truck!

“Plenty of top end and a smooth but strong bottom end that was great for clearing a tricky double double.” Blane Allen

Tekin tq’s and wins the 2013 Spring Sting!

The Badlands track in Myrtle Beach, SC hosted the 2013 Spring Sting.  There were over 200 entries at this event.
Tekin powered Dennis Allison would take overall Tq in the 1/8 Electric Truggy class followed by Tekin teammate John McGinty in 4th.  John McGinty moved into 2nd on the first lap and a few minutes into the race would take the lead from Allison leading the remainder of the main taking the overall win with Allison in two for 2nd. Both McGinty and Allison were using the Tekin Rx8 and T8 line of motors.
Tekin powered Larry Ward would take a hard earned 3rd spot on the podium with his Tekin Rx8 Pro 4 4600 powered TLR 2.0 SCTE ride.

Under the Hood with Tekin team driver Adam Drake

Team Tekin factory driver Adam Drake is well known throughout RC racing all over the world. “The Drake” is best known for his consistent efforts in the 1/8 Buggy scene. We take an in depth look into Adam’s TLR 8ight E 1/8 Electric E buggy.

Drake’s signature paint scheme is easy to spot running around the track. Adam’s using the latest TLR 8ight 3.0 body on his 8ight E buggy wrapped up by Upgrade RC.

Look at the top with the body removed you can see Adam chooses a Tekin Rx8 and Tekin 1900kv T8 motor with a Tekno Traktion Drive that Adam feels makes the car more forgiving to drive on the rough tracks he visits such as the Psycho Nitro Blast or Silver State. Adam changes between a 15T and 16T clutch/pinion setup with a 48T metal spur depending on track size and layout.

Drake is also using a 4s 5400mah 35c “Sport” Thunder Power pack for weight savings. When coupled to the Tekin Rx8 and T8 1900 motor, Adam’s 8ight E lacks nothing in the power department with this combination. This allows Drake to run a car that is close in weight to his nitro buggy which helps greatly in the setup department.
Thanks for checking out one of many upcoming “Under the Hoods” with the Team Tekin factory squad!

Scott Hughes wins the highly anticipated Ultra4 race!

Team Tekin driver Scott Hughes secures a win in the highly anticipated Ultra4 race brought to you by SoCal Rock Crawling Club and RCP Crawlers.

The first true rock race specific course in SoCal at the legendary Glenn Helen Raceway was home to this first time event. Scott’s Tekin controlled Vaterra Twin Hammers by Horizon Hobbies annihilated the course by setting fast time of the day. “ The Tekin FXR proved worthy in the rough terrain by accelerating quickly over the larger obstacles yet having the linear power to navigate the course with confidence,” says Scott.  Look for Scott to report more on the series in the near future.

Tekin takes Round 2 win at the RC Pro Series Delta division!

Round 2 of the RC Pro Series Delta division was held in Shreveport, LA. at TNT Raceway.  Over 100 entries allowed the track to start out pretty smooth with a little dust.  A few computer issues forced event organizers to set up the mains based on qualifying after the re-sort.  This worked to Tekin powered Reggie Tongue’s favor in E-buggy where he would be TQ.

The computer issues also caused the main times to be lowered. The electric triple A’s were now 5min double A’s.  Reggie had two hard fought battles with Ty Rogers as they swapped leads all the way down to the last lap in both A’s.  In the end Tongue ended up being a little more consistent and won both mains, giving him the overall win in E-Buggy using the Tekin Rx8 and T8 Redline motor programmed with a Hotwire USB.
