Tekin powered wins at RD4 of the JBRL!

This past weekend at the JBRL at Controlled Chaos Raceway, Tekin team drivers Ryan Dunford and Doug “Casper” Nielsen had a great time and great racing at this fantastic facility.  The track was a hard packed surface with tons of traction so the Tekin powered TLR vehicles went mid motor.

Ryan took his Tekin RS Gen2 Redline Gen2 8.5 powered TLR 22T mid motor to a TQ and win!

In the Pro 2 Class, Ryan had some competition from a couple other fast guys and took the TQ and win running his Tekin RS Pro and Redline Gen 2 6.5T powered 22 SCT in mid motor configuration. Tekin teammate Doug “Casper” Nielsen would join Dunford taking 2nd for the round. Doug was also using a Tekin RS Gen2 and Redline Gen2 8.5 motor in his TLR 22SCT.

David Jenson would take the win using a Tekin Rx8 esc. Tekin team driver Casper would take a 2nd for RD4 in the Pro4 class running a Tekin Rx8 Gen2 esc and Pro4 HD joined by Ryan in 3rd with his Tekin RX8 Gen 2 esc and Tekin Pro4 4600 powered TLR SCTE 2.0

Tekin wins the "Euro Contest" with Alex Zanchettin !

Recently signed Italian driver Alex Zanchettin would pilot his Tekin Rx8 Gen2 T8 powered TLR buggy to victory at the 2013 Euro Contest hosted by Bitty Design. Held in Italy, this event is not only a RC race bringing in some of the biggest drivers in Europe but boasts a party like atmosphere that makes it a must attend event in the region.

Alex chose the Tekin Rx8 Gen2 and T8 1900 motor! All programmed with the Tekin Hotwire.

Under the Hood with Tekin’s Tj Bradley

When it comes to On-road racing there are very few veteran racers still at the top of their game. Tj is one of the easiest guys to talk to in the pits, he’s consistently fast, has well setup cars, and he’s always in the hunt for the win. Whether it’s carpet or pavement Tj has put his car on the box frequently. Let’s take a look “Under the Hood” of his ROAR National Championship winning ride.

Inside Tj’s Corally HMX is a Tekin RS Gen2 esc paired with a Tekin Gen2 Redline motor. Power is supplied by a RC King battery. Steering and radio equipment is by Futaba.

If you look at the layout Tj chooses for his electronics you can see he’s focused on efficiency. His transponder is right up front in the car ahead of the shock tower but behind the bumper enough to protect it. In a drag race to the line, these few inches can be the difference between 1st and 2nd. Directly behind the RS Gen2 is a motor fan tucked nicely between the two components for maximum effectiveness.

So if you’re attending one of the larger events in Tj’s home state of Florida, Nationals or the IIC race in Vegas and you see the fastest guy in the paddock with a beard, make sure you say “hi” to Tekin powered Tj Bradley!

Tekin powered Blais brothers win the 3rd Annual Mid-Summer Shootout!

Hosted at Coyote Hobbies the 3rd Annual Mid-Summer Shootout wrapped up over the weekend. The house was full and the racing was close.

Tekin powered Chris Blais would take the overall Tq over his brother Nick. Going into the A the tension was pretty thick while the drivers waiting for the “go” tone. Chris would run out front until a minor mistake would let Nick take the lead. Chris would make a diving pass to the inside on the 2nd to last turn, the two would make contact with Nick getting the best out of it taking the win. Both drivers chose the Tekin Rx8 and T8 motor to power them to the podium.

The 4wd SC would be up last but would have some of the tightest racing of the weekend! Chris Blais would put his Tekin powered Tekno SC in the Tq spot over his brother Nick and local fast guy Rudy Rico. The 3 would battle it out for the entire main. Nick would attempt a bold move near the end but would bobble giving up 2nd place Rico. The 3 would finish up with Chris 1st, Rico 2nd, and Nick 3rd. Chris and Nick both chose the Tekin Rx8 Gen2 esc and Pro 4 HD motor.

Matt Olson takes Rd4 of the Short Course Showdown Series

Round 4 of the Short Course Nationwide Tour was hosted at Holeshot Raceway located in Sanford, FL. With over 100 entries for the event racing was heavy for the SC only event.

Friday was open practice from allowing for the grip to come up as more laps were put down on the surface. By end of practice most were on slicks and wheelies were common in the mod classes!

In 4wd Sc Tekin powered Matt Olson was on another level. Matt would put his Tekin Rx8 Gen2 Pro 4HD motor into the overall Tq position taking the win leading from tone to tone throwing down some of the fastest lap times of the weekend.

Tekin wins the Hank Perry 240!

Round 2 of the NCT series also know as “The Hank Perry 240” was held once again in Spokane Washington over Memorial Day weekend. This is one of the largest events in the Northwest with this year being no exception at close to 275 entries and drivers from all over the Northwest and Western Canada.

The biggest class on the entire weekend was the always exciting electric buggy class. In three very close qualifying rounds Tekin’s own Jeremy “PG”  Potter would take his Tekin powered Hot Bodies D812/Tekno converted Buggy would Secure the overall Tq. Close on his heels was Tekin powered Jordan Hestness followed by Tekin teammates Jayson Tjepkema and Nick Buechler. Potter would take it to the field in A1 and A2 and come away with the overall win. In A3 Buechler would run away with it and take 2nd overall with Tjepkema rounding out an all Team Tekin Podium. All 3 drivers ran Rx8 Gen2’s with T8 Motors.

The 4wd Mod Buggy class would put Tekin powered Nick Buechler on the pole for triple A-mains. This was one of the tightest fields of the weekend. It would come down to A3 to decide the overall winner. Buechler was able to win the main but the overall would go to Mike Hudson putting Nick TQ and 2nd overall after the points were totaled. Tekin teammate Jerem “PG” Potter would round out the podium in 3rd overall. Both drivers chose the Tekin RS Pro and Gen 2 Redline motors to power them to a top spot.

Jayson Tjepkema was able to wrap up the overall Tq in 4wd sc in first two qualifiers. Tjepkema would go on to take 1st place in both A-1 and A-2 giving him the overall win for the weekend in the 4wd SC class. “The Tekin Pro4HD 4300 and Rx8 Gen2 gave me enough power to be the only one able to quad the biggest quad on the track and do it constantly. A lot of guys looking at my car looking for a 4s pack because most 1/8 buggies where not quading! Everyone watching cheering every time I made it.” Jayson Tjepkema  Tekin teammate Mike Turner bumped from the B after tough luck all weekend taking 9th.

Nick Buechler would also podium in 2wd Mod truck taking 3rd overall with his Tekin RS Gen2 Redline powered AE T4.2. Tekin teammate Shane Preugschat wasn’t far behind takin 5th.

Under the Hood with Eric Salvas

Oval racing is often filled with some of the most hardcore dedicated r/c racers on the planet. Being off a mere 3 or 4 seconds for their entire run means you may not make the show and may even be a lap down!  Lucky for Tekin we have two of the most friendly and helpful oval racers around Eric and Steve Salvas. Let’s take a look at the first Salavas brothers car…We go Under the Hood of Eric Salvas’s 2012 US Open Wheel Dirt Oval Nationals Championship winning car.

Eric runs a nice clean sinister looking Tekin RS Pro Redline Gen2 powered Custom Works Intimidator SE3 direct drive kit.

Eric controls all of his cars using Spektrum surface radio equipment. Supplying power to the Tekin equipment are SMC “spec” batteries required by DODC. Notice the clear lexan debris shield to keep stuff out of the gear mesh.

Eric rolls out on BSR racing tires while making ever left turn…Note that Eric runs his RS mounted so the solder posts get fresh clean cool air, cool electronics always run faster!

So next time you’re attending an RC Oval event make sure to say “hi” to one of the smiling Salvas Brothers, they’re twice as easy to find…there’s two of ’em!

Under the Hood with Tekin powered Ryan Lutz

Known as one of the nicest most approachable guys in RC racing, Ryan Lutz chose Tekin electronics after meeting team manager Randy Pike at a local race. “Lutz had recently defected to California and into my backyard. We began talking and he’d mentioned he was tough on electronics and often ran into issues running the classes. Tekin took it on as a personal challenge and he’s been on the team ever since.” Randy Pike

So when asked what was Ryan’s favorite electric class ride to show off he didn’t hesitate to whip out his Tekin powered Team Durango Dex408 buggy. Let’s take a look at what’s “under the hood” of Lutz’s E buggy.

Ryan chooses to run a Tekin T8 1900kv motor controlled by the Tekin Rx8 Gen2 esc. Powering up his Tekin system are a pair of Protek 100c 2s packs. Check out that fly white wire!
Ryan learned everything he knows about clean wiring and beautiful soldering from Tekin team manager Randy Pike 😉  Look at that install job!
As if Ryan wasn’t easy enough to spot roaming around the race track at well over 6 1/2 feet tall he runs his well known Blue/Pink paint scheme with AKA white wheels.  If you ever get the chance make sure to stop by and say “hi” to Mr. Lutz.
Be sure to check out Lutz RC, follow Ryan on Facebook, and catch his race reports here!

Tekin Tq’s and Wins every Electric Class at the 1st Annual Silver Dollar Off-road Challenge!

The Inaugural Silver Dollar Off-road Challenge wrapped up this past weekend. Held at A-Main Hobbies 2nd off-road track Silver Dollar Raceway. The facility has been featured in a few videos as well as the VRC virtual race video game. However after attending this event and seeing the facility first hand the videos while great do not do this track justice.

“For this race the Silver Dollar crew swapped out all of the dirt to squash the previous tracks tire eating nature. The called in one of the best off-road track builders of our time Joey “The Dirt” Christensen to work his magic on the new dirt and come up with a fun layout for the inaugural race. El Dirte’ and crew succeeded providing the racers with a fun, fast, flowing layout that while technical all seemed to make sense driving around the track. The previous dirt was known to consume tires at an alarming rate. The new track surface is nothing like that now. When ran wet or damp the track has very little if any tire wear. When dry the track provides excellent grip with moderate tire wear. Good stuff!”  Randy Pike

Early on in the event in the 4wd SC class would be who could chase down and give Tekin powered Austin Blair’s Tekno a run for it’s money. BMiller Racing’s Josh O’Connell, Lou Figueria and Randy Pike would all give it their all to catch the young driver. The top 4 were all extremely close in qualifying, however Austin would take the overall Tq in the class. Come A main time the wind was going to be a huge factor. Wind gust over 30mph during the main would mean the drivers would all have to choose whether or not to risk the big triples and if they did timing the gust would be critical. At the tone the carnage would take out Blair and O’Connell right from the get go allowing Pike to take the front and lead the field over the huge step up. Leading into the next few turns Pike would get spun out by another racer and fall back in the pack. This would allow Blair and the rest to get back into the race. For the remainder of the race the racers would spread out and finish up with Blair taking the win, Figueira 2nd, O’Connell 3rd overall. The entire podium was Tekin powered with Austin Blair taking Tq and the win using the Tekin Rx8 Gen2 and Pro 4 HD 4300kv motor in his Tekno SC truck.

The event also hosted an E-Truggy class. Tekin’s own Randy Pike would Tq all 3 round of qualifying  with his Tekin Rx8 Gen2 esc and T8 2000kv motor powered TLR 8ight 2.0e. The A main was somewhat uneventful as Pike walked away from the field lapping everyone around the 9 minute mark. A few wheelies and huge jumps to show off the power of the Tekin electronics filled the remainder of the 10 minute A main.

The last electric A main was the E Buggy class. This class was up for grabs during the A-main. Tq was Tekin powered Curtis Door with his Tekin Rx8 Gen2 T8 powered Tekno buggy. Tekin teammate Autin Blair sitting 2nd followed by Richard “The King” Saxton in 3rd. From the tone the 15 buggy group would blast around the track. The wind becoming a factor again in this race would force the drivers to exercise car control skills to keep all 4 wheels facing the right direction. Door would experience a steering issue forcing him to retire while in the lead. Blair would take over and finish up the main in the top position followed by Saxton 2nd, and Figueira 3rd.  Austin chose the Tekin Rx8 Gen2 esc and T8 2050 to power his winning Tekno buggy ride.
