This last weekend Tekin teammates Ryan Lutz and Joe Bornhorst continued to build on their teammate status by both signing recently with Tekno RC.  Tekno long known for their innovative electric buggy and electric truggy designs have picked up two of Tekin’s top drivers to build upon their already great team going into 2015. This was the first big race for Lutz having joined Tekno and the results speak for themselves.

Joe Bornhorst has been making a name for himself all 2014. Team manager Randy Pike said “he’s one to watch” earlier this year and nothing could be further from the truth. Joe went out and Tq’d over some of the fastest drivers in the world in the 1/8 E buggy division.

Bornhost would take A-1 with a tone to tone victory over Tekin/Tekno teammate Ryan Lutz who took P2.  A-2 Joe would make a mistake in the first corner to give Lutz the lead. For the next few minutes the entire field would battle it out. Lutz would get the lead back and hold onto to take the win in A-2, Joe taking P2.  A-3 would have the teammates swapping the lead countless times. Side by side for nearly 5 minutes it would come down to Bornhorst making a mistake giving Lutz  gap he wouldn’t relinquish taking the overall win. Bornhorst would take P2 overall, Cody King taking 3rd.  Both Joe and Ryan chose the award winning Tekin Rx8 Gen2 and T8 Gen2 motors to power their Tekno rides to the top positions in the field.

Tekin factory driver Martin Harrison had a phenomenal weekend at the 2014 Southern Indoor Champs. The schedule had open practice on Friday, qualifying on Saturday, mains on Sunday.

Harrison was able to Tq the 4wd Sc class as well a 1/8 E Truggy. E buggy would have elude him for Tq position but would line up solidly in p2 for the mains.

Martin would put together two clean runs in both 4wd SC and E Truggy, and repeating that feat in A-2 in both classes taking the overall wins in both divisions. E Buggy would be a more action packed story. Early in A-1 Harrison had a solid lead but would get into traffic and fall back to 3rd in A-1. A2 would once again find Harrison in the lead only to make a few mistakes dropping back. Harrison would fight his way back into the lead to take A-2. It would come down to the final A-main. Harrison would fight hard taking a 2nd place finish in A-3 which would be enough for him to take the overall win!

Harrison chose the award winning Tekin Rx8 Gen2 esc in all 3 winning TLR cars.  Harrison powered his TLR SCTE 2.0 with the Tekin Pro4 HD4300kv, his E Truggy with a 2000kv Tekin T8 Gen2, and his E buggy with  a 1900kv Tekin T8 Gen2 motor.

The annual Fall Brawl is hosted each year at the Outback Raceway in Chico, Ca.  Know as the “Amain.com  indoor track” to most. Races from all over the west coast travel to this event knowing that the racing will be tight, top notch, and the facility will be unquestionably in top not shape due to no small part of Kevin Jelich and his band of merry track crew.  This years layout had some very technical jump sections where the mod classes clearly had options that the stock cars simply couldn’t attempt. This proved to make for a separation in lap times and viewing pleasure to those who attended. Over 270 entries would grace the event and make for some of the best racing in the region.

Qualifying would be qual points, best of 2 rounds and kick of Saturday morning 10 am sharp. Early on 4wd mod cars were dropping into the upper 13 second range and stock cars in the higher 14 second region showing you the track separation of speed and horsepower.  Tekin drivers already began showing signs of speed and consistency taking the Tq positions 2wd Mod Buggy, 4wd Mod Buggy, 2wd Mod SCT Truck, and 4wd SCT Truck.

Tekin powered Curtis Door was on a tear during qualifying taking P1 in both 2wd Mod Buggy and 4wd Mod Buggy.  Curtis chose the Tekin RSX esc for both cars choosing a 7.5 in 2wd Buggy and a 6.5 Redline Gen2 for his 4wd buggy.  Curtis would go onto to take the overall win in 4wd mod buggy.

2wd Mod SC truck was dominated by Tekin factory driver Jason “MO” Moberly using his Tekin powered TLR 22 SCT 2.0 in mid motor configuration. Jason chose the Tekin RSX and Redline Gen2 8.5T to put on a clinic taking every round of qualifying and the overall win in the class. Tekin teammate Drew Lorenzo would join him using a similar power system.

Austin Blair would find his happy place running the 4wd SC class with his favorite award winning Tekin Rx8 Gen2 esc and Pro4HD 4300kv motor. Austin would take the overall win and the dash for cash win proving not only can you win the race with Tekin, you can get paid!

Tekin would continue to have success in Jeff Lorenzos 2wd Stock SC truck taking the overall win. Jeff used the Tekin RS Gen2 and Redline Gen2 17.5. Joining him on the podium was Tekin powered Cameron Kerndt running the same combo taking P2!

Both Jeff and Cameron would find their way onto the podium again with the Tekin RS Gen2 17.5 system in the 2wd Stock Stadium truck class as well! Great job guys.

The Maritime Off-road Wars has become a “must attend” event in recent years. Host Ian Knight has put together a great event with a well liked layout using profiled jumps and fast paced track layout.  The split format having 2wd on Saturday and 4wd on Sunday allowed the racers to focus on each class on their own. Four rounds of qualifying and a triple A-main format would decide the winner.

Tom Cockerill, Ellis Stafford, Jorn Neumann and Elliott Boots would all be very close during qualifying with Stafford taking Tq honors in 2wd buggy. A-1 saw the top 4 break away. Elliott Boots would make the least costly mistakes capitalizing on the mistakes of the others to take the win. A-2 again had the top 4 breaking away from the pack. This time Nuemann would take the win. A-3 mean the overall win was up for grabs. Cockerill would make the least mistakes and grow a margin setting the fastest overall main time. Results were tallied and time becoming the determining factor Cockerill would take the win over Boots by a 5 second margin. Elliott would settle for 2nd, Neumann 3rd.

4wd Buggy was up on Sunday. Neumann would be fastest taking all 4 rounds of qualifying. Elliott Boots would find the setup and pace in the final round to put his Tekin powered Kyosho in P2 for the mains.  A-1 would have Neumann make a mistake allowing Boots to take a commanding win. A-2  would once again be Neumann making a rare mistake again handing the lead to Boots who would not hesitate running the remainder of the main uncontested for the overall win!

This last weekend saw the running of the final round of the South African 1/10th Electric Off Road Nationals.  It’s a series of 5 events with 4 of the events to count towards national ranking. This final event was to be held at the Ultra Raceway facility in Pretoria, South Africa.

Jonathan Ment and his son Jarod would compete in multiple classes. Jarod would prove quick right out of the gate posting multiple Tq runs with as much a 20 seconds on the field in the 2wd Stock Buggy class.  2wd Short Course would also see Jarod on top of the qualifying order with Tq runs in this class also.  Father Jonathan would take note from his son and put in a Tq run in the 4wd SC Truck class lapping the field twice on the first run of the day. Wrapping up qualifying would have Jarod Tq in 2wd Stock buggy, 2wd SC Truck, 10th in 2wd Mod buggy(with his stock car), Jonathan sitting Tq in 4wd SC, 9th in 2wd Mod Buggy, and 8th in 4wd Mod Buggy respectively.

Mains day would prove the duo’s continue success. Jarod was first up with his stock TLR 22 2wd buggy with a flawless run giving him his first win for the day.  Up again up with his 2wd Short Course, another win for the day! Next up Jonathan and and his 4wd Short Course, a win again!  3 races, 3 wins!

2wd Mod Buggy was up and had both Jarod and Jonathan starting from the back of the field. Jarod running his stock buggy in the 2wd Mod buggy class would put on a show. Starting from last on the grid, he would set a pace that would allow him to pick of the competition getting up to 2nd place just 10 seconds behind the leader. This was impressive considering it was his stock buggy in the mod class.

Round 4 of the RCPro Series was hosted by Thornhill RC in Hutto, Texas. Tekin powered Tyler Hooks would TQ E-buggy with Tekin teammate Brian Henn in two sitting P2. Hooks would also go onto Tq E-truggy as well.

Hooks was able to win A1 and A2 in E-buggy to take the overall win after some early pressure from Tekin teammate Brian “Smiley” Henn. Brian would have a costly error in A-1 and further bad luck in A-2 with a mechanical. Henn would pull it back together In A-3 to take the win from tone to tone taking 3rd overall for the weekend. Both drivers chose the Tekin Rx8 Gen2 esc and T8 Gen2 motors.

The Halloween Havoc was held at Addiction Rc in Ogden UT. With 167 entries the turn out was top notch. Jerrit Knight managed to Tq and win the 13.5 4wd buggy class that has become one of the most popular in the local region. Jerrit chose the Tekin RSX Esc and Redline Gen2 to power him to victory. Knight wasn’t done there, he also took 2nd in 13.5 Stadium truck and 3rd in 2wd buggy running the same equipment.

Darren Lord would be on pace early on. Starting from 4th on the grid in the 4wd Mod Buggy A-main Darren would exercise a bit of patience with the rest of the field. It would pay off in the end securing 2nd overall using his Tekin RSX Gen2 Redline powered Schumacher K1 Aero.

Ash Peeler would fight his way to a 3rd place overall in the heavily contested 2wd Mod Short Course truck division. Ash chose the Tekin RSX and Redline Gen2 7.5 to give him the power to bring home the final podium position.

LCRC in Oakland Mills, Pennsylvania held their annual Halloween race. Racing was fast and enjoyed by all. The largest class of the weekend being Electric Buggy with 71 entries.

Tekin driver Joe Bornhorst would Tq both the 1/8 E Buggy class and 1/8 E Truggy class handily. Starting from his Tq position Joe would simply walk away from the competition leaving them in his wake. Joe’s Tekin powered Tekno cars were simply too much for the rest of the field.

Exeter Hobbies held their Exeter Hobbies Fall Classic which would bring over 90 entries.

Saturday Morning would bring an early start of 6am with controlled practice running till 8:30am. Tekin team drivers would be fighting each other for the overall Tq in 2wd Mod Buggy, 4wd Mod Buggy, and 2wd Mod SC Truck.  Ryan Dunford would take the overall Tq over teammate Derek Stephansen in the 4wd buggy class. Derek would return the favor taking the 2wd Mod Buggy overall Tq and 2wd Mod SC Tq as well.

The 4wd buggy A-main was up next.  At the start of the tone it would be a race through the option line with Dunford taking the outer lane and Stephansen through the ripples on the inside. Having gone through this line all day with no mistakes, Stephansen would bobble on the first lap sending him to tenth. This would remove all pressure from Duford who was on point with his Tekin powered TLR 22-4.  Running the RSX and Redline Gen2 5.5 motor, he pulled away from the field leading wire to wire for the 7 minutes never worrying about power.

2wd Mod SC was up with Tq Derek Stephansen taking a lap on the field at the final tone. Derek chose the Tekin RSX esc and Redline Gen2 in 7.5 Turn to dominate the field.  “My Tekin powered SCT had great power all main long!” Stephansen

4wd SC had Ryan Dunford start from his Tq position in his Tekin RX8 Gen2 powered TLR SCTE 2.0 to victory from the TQ position using the Tekin pro4 4600 motor.  Tekin teammate Doug “Casper” Nielsen would join Dunford on the podium in the 2nd position running the same system.

Come mains time Stephansen would be start from the pole in 2wd Mod A-Main. Stephansen would get a great start and begin to stretch his lead over 2nd until a CVD would ultimately fail while leading. This would give Dunford the lead. On lap 2 coming onto the sweeper Dunfords car flipped over and he would fall to last. For the rest of the 7 minutes, he pushed hard and would pass for 2nd place on the last lap.
